Date announced for Luxembourg’s next national elections

Luxembourg’s next legislative elections will take place in October, 2018, after the last snap elections altered the political calendar.

Normally, national elections take place every five years on the first Sunday of June.

But this timing changed when snap elections were held in October 2013, following the stepping down of Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker.

The change could also mean that local and national elections are held simultaneously in October 2023. Discussing the matter on Friday, the Cabinet said this would not happen and the local or communal elections would be brought forward to June 2023.

In another decision made by the Council of Ministers on Friday, drone owners must now register with Luxembourg’s civil aviation authority. Their UAVs must also be recorded and registered.
