Justine Greening comes out as first female UK cabinet minister in a same-sex relationship
British Government minister Justine Greening has come out, revealing that she is in a same-sex relationship.
In doing so, the Putney MP and International Development Secretary, becomes the first out LGB female cabinet minister.
She tweeted her announcement, writing: “Today’s a good day to say I’m in a happy same sex relationship, I campaigned for Stronger In but sometimes you’re better off out!#Pride2016”
The tweet also joked about the EU referendum, which she makes light of, despite campaigning to remain in the EU.
The minister did not specify her sexual orientation, simply saying she is in a same-sex relationship.
Ms Greening joins David Mundell, the Scottish Secretary, who came out as gay in January.
After tweeting, the MP was congratulated by Parliamentary colleagues and by the Prime Minister who wrote: “Congratulations Justine – that’s great news.”
