5 dead after Luxembourg registered plane crashes in Malta

A Luxembourg registered plane has crashed killing five people on board at Malta Airport early Monday morning.

The aircraft wasrented by the Luxembourg state, for the services of the European border and coastguard agency Frontex.

Five people are reported killed on the twin propeller plane destined for a mission in Libya.

According to witnesses on site, the plane crashed at 7am local time at Luqa Airport, for reasons still unexplained.

Firefighters rushed to the scene where large clouds of black smoke rose from the runway as shown in the video above.

The airport is currently closed.
