Number of jobseekers in Luxembourg falls by 4.6%

The number of registered jobseekers in Luxembourg has decreased by 4.6% over one year.

As of 31 December 2017, the number of available jobseekers registered with the ADEM was 17,283. Over one year, this represents a decrease of 839 people or 4.6%. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate calculated by STATEC thus stands at 5.8%.

This decline particularly affects jobseekers under the age of 30 (-8.6%) and low-skilled jobseekers (7.6%). Moreover, the number of long-term unemployed people decreased by 7.0%.

On the other hand, the number of jobseekers aged 45 decreased more modestly- down by 1.0% over one year- whilst the number of jobseekers graduating from higher education increased by 3.0%.

During the month of December 2017, employers reported 2,122 vacancies at ADEM, an increase of 8.7% over December 2016.
