32 New Judges to be Appointed in Luxembourg
At its meeting on Wednesday, the Cabinet (council) of the Luxembourg Government decided to appoint a total of 32 new judges between 2017-18 and 2020-21.
A multi-year programme of recruitment into the judiciary will require an amendment to the revised law of 7 March 1980 on the organisation of the judiciary, addressing the needs of the judiciary and the public prosecutor.
In order to organise temporary replacements, the draft law will allow for a complementary pool of judges at judicial headquarters, attached to the President of the Superior Court of Justice, as well as a complementary pool of public prosecutors, to the State Attorney General. In addition, two new chambers will be created at the district court in Luxembourg to deal with criminal cases as well as civil and commercial cases.
