New US Ambassador to Luxembourg ready to go?
The choice for the new US Ambassador to Luxembourg may already have been made, according to the New York Post.
Georgette Mosbacher, a long-time friend of US President Donald Trump is the alleged top pick of Reince Priebus, Trump’s chief of staff.
Another report from the Washington Post mentions Mosbacher’s name as a possible pick for an ambassadorship as well, without, however, mentioning Luxembourg explicitly.
While Priebus seems to have Mosbacher at the very top of his list, the New York Post also reports of disputes on the matter inside the Trump administration.
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson reportedly took on his post under the condition of having a say in appointing ambassadors.
Priebus, on the other hand, is said to be side-lining Tillerson when it comes to certain diplomatic postings.
According to the New York Post, Priebus already received pledges for Miami Marlins owner Jess Loria to be sent to France, financier Lew Eisenberg to Italy and hedge fund manager Duke Buchan to Spain.
Entrepreneur and socialite
Mosbacher made a name for herself in the 1990s after acquiring struggling cosmetics company La Prairie, making it profitable and then selling it off.
After that, she founded her own marketing and consulting firm.
Indiana-born Mosbacher, formerly married to former Secretary of Commerce Robert Mosbacher, sits on the boards of numerous companies and advises hedge funds, investment companies and internet companies.
Mosbacher has been a supporter of and fundraiser for the Republican Party for many years.
