Meteolux has issued a severe gale / storm warning for Thursday in Luxembourg.

With winds expected to reach 75 – 85 km/h today between 07:00 and 18:00, this represents Force 9 on the Beaufort Wind Scale which is described as “severe gales” which can lead to “slight structural damage (chimney pots and slates removed)”.

Between 10:00 and 14:00, however, gusts could get up to 95 km/h which compares to Storm Force on the Beaufort Wind Scale which is “Seldom experienced inland; trees uprooted; considerable structural damage”.

Also, on Thursday morning, snow of up to 3cm is forecast for the north of the country.

High winds are expected to continue until mid next week, although not as strong as today.

River levels are also expected to rise again during the day, with the River Moselle in particular a worry, with levels yesterday rising to close to those of last week when it burst its banks with streets in Remich and other towns being flooded and blocked to traffic. Sunday is expected to be the wettest day within the next five days.
