German TV talent show to host auditions in Luxembourg
Do you think you have what it takes to become Germany’s next singing sensation? The talent show “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” is hosting auditions in Luxembourg, one of eight countries on a European casting tour.
Apart from its traditional round of auditions in Germany, a casting truck will make a stop in Luxembourg, Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Poland and the Czech Republic.
The format of DSDS, as the show is commonly referred to, mirrors that of casting programmes, such as American Idol or Pop Idol. Following several rounds of pre-recorded auditions, aspiring pop stars move on to live shows, where they are voted to the next round by the public.
Coaching sessions at exotic destinations beckon, as well as a record deal for the winner. However, of the past 11 “superstars”, few have achieved lasting success.
The 2016 casting is organised in the run-up to the 2017 season of the show, which first premiered on German television channel RTL in 2002.
Candidates have to be aged between 16 and 30. Underage candidates need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
According to a spokesperson candidates should be able to speak some German. Essential, however, is that singers bring ID and prepare three songs. Anyone wishing to play an instrument at the audition has to bring this, too.
On its tour of eight countries and 49 cities, the DSDS casting truck stops on Place Guillaume on August 29 from 2pm to 8pm.
