There was plenty to see for Luxembourg supporters during the first day of the Rio Olympic Games when four local athletes were put to the test.

In the pool, were two Luxembourg swimmers: Raphaël Stacchiotti and Laurent Carnol.

Stacchiotti finished 23rd out of 27 swimmers for men’s 400m individual medley and Carnol, finished 27th out of 46 for 100m breaststroke with a time of 1’00”88.

Luxembourg cyclist Fränk Schleck finished 20th in the men’s road race

Table tennis player Ni Xia Lian defeated Brazilian Caroline Kumahara 4:3 in what is her fourth appearance at the Olympic Games. Ranked World 66, she will play Spaniard Shen Yanfei on Sunday.
