EasyJet (JB) to start Luxembourg-Lyon flights

(JB) easyJet is to operate a new route between Luxembourg and Lyon, starting in November this year, with three return flights per week.

The new route came as a surprise even to the operators of Luxembourg’s airport. lux-airport CEO Johan Vanneste told wort.lu/en, that he heard about the route via the media on Thursday.

“They (easyJet) can do that because we are not a congested airport and slots are not an issue,” he explained.

It will be the fifth route operated by easyJet involving Luxembourg airport when flights begin on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays in November.
Flight schedules

Thursday 12 noon -13:10
Friday 12 noon- 13:10

Lyon-Lux

easyJet will not be the first operator to fly this route, which has been served by HOP!, the low-cost subsidiary of Air France, since February 2016.

Vaneste said he saw the entry of a second operator on the route as complementary. He said HOP! offers day returns with connections to other French airports while this will not be the case for easyJet, which he said appears to target holiday-makers.

“It’s a different offer so complementary to the HOP! offer. We’re always happy to have more capacity on existing routes,” he said.
