Luxembourg violinist Cathy Heidt selected for European Union Youth Orchestra

Luxembourg violinist Cathy Heidt has been selected as a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO); more than 2,000 musicians attended auditions across the 28 EU Member States and 120 applications were selected.

In Luxembourg, 12 musicians had applied and a masterclass by Peter Stark (EUYO) preceded the auditions of 8 October 2017. The selection of the jury, composed of Peter Stark, Serge Bausch (Conservatory VdL), Marc Treinen (Conservatory Esch / Alzette), Marc Jacoby (Conservatoire du Nord) and Marco Battistella (Ministry of Culture) focused on Cathy Heidt.

The violinist was born in 1997 and began playing the violin at the age of six. She studied at the Conservatoire du Nord and is currently at the Universität der Künste in Berlin. The young violinist was part of a number of youth orchestras and had the role of First Violin with the Junge Philharmonie Brandenburg and the Austrian Summer Opera Festival Opera.

As a member of EUYO, Cathy Heidt will attend the orchestra rehearsals in Grafenegg (Austria). She will also be part of the orchestra during the two tours in the spring and summer of 2018 as well as other projects of the orchestra.

The EUYO is often perceived as an ambassador of the European Union and the orchestra symbolises the European spirit through culture. The orchestra is financed mainly by European Union funds.
