Cafés, restaurants, cinemas and gyms to remain shut until 15 December

Cafés, restaurants, cinemas and gyms in Luxembourg close until 15 December to stop the advance of the coronavirus. Shops stay open,but customers have to wear a mouthpiece.

Prime Minister Xavier Bettel announced the measures on Monday. The Parliament of the country with more than 600,000 inhabitants still has to approve it on Wednesday.

“The situation is not catastrophic, but we want to have some room for manoeuvre to guarantee normal hospital care in the medium term,” says Bettel.

There is already a curfew for Luxembourgers between 23.00 and 6.00. Households may receive up to four guests. Luxembourg has the largest number of coronary heart disease cases per capita in all EU countries. There are an average of 1279 per 100,000.
