Luxembourg’s national lottery took a total 97.6 million euros in 2016, which may sound like a huge amount but was actually a drop of 1.6% compared to 2015 where over 99 million euros was recorded.

Overall the country’s 2016 figures are significantly worse than the previous years. The ‘LOTTO’ game registered a drop of 3.7% whereas the ‘ZUBITO LOTTO’ fell by 19.8%. As for the Euro Millions lottery, this declined by 2.6% in Luxembourg.

In 2016 betting offices also recorded a decline. For them the figure was 15.2%. This was partially due to horse betting still not being as popular as in other countries, according to the Loterie Nationale.

However all the figures are not minus, and the Loterie Nationale was able to record a positive result for its ‘RUBBEL’ game which rose by 6.5% in 2016.

Last year no less that three people won Euro Millions in Luxembourg, while for a new game ‘ExtraLux’ two players have already won 100,000 euros each.
