An accident on the A1 motorway coming from Germany going towards Luxembourg caused thousands of empty bottles to end up on the road and completely block the motorway.

At around 4pm, some 500 metres before the Flaxweiler slip road, a lorry tried to switch from the left to the right lane.

However, the driver had not seen a car that was driving on the right lane. When he realised his mistake, he pulled to the left, causing the lorry to start spinning out of control, driving off the road and finally falling over.

This of course caused the cargo — thousands of empty beer bottles — to be spread all over the motorway.

The driver was hurt and had to be brought to the hospital.

The motorway had to be closed down for cleaning up and a diversion led drivers along the CR142 next to the motorway.
