Luxembourg jobseeker numbers fall an annual 5.3% in November

The number of jobseekers registered with ADEM, Luxembourg’s state employment office, fell 5.3% in November compared with the same month last year.

“The under 30s particularly benefitted from the decline” in unemployment, ADEM said in a statement on Wednesday.

There was an 8.2% fall in the number of jobless within that age range, ADEM said. Among those with few qualifications there was an 8% decline in joblessness. For the long-term unemployed, the figure was 7.9%.

Luxembourg’s unemployment rate was 5.8% last month, unchanged from October, ADEM said, citing data from Statec, Luxembourg’s statistics office.

There were 2,792 vacant positions reported by employers last month, 18.4% more than in November, 2016, ADEM said.
