Global March for Science coming to Luxembourg

A group of people will be marching in the name of science in Luxembourg this weekend.

March for Science is a global event which started in America and is a celebration of science.

The march in Luxembourg will start from Place Clairefontaine and is being organised by Women’s March Luxembourg.

The group said on the event’s Facebook page: “Women’s March Luxembourg supports the March for Science, and we recognize that a vibrant and diverse community — including the scientific community — is the strength of any country.

“Inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility are central to the mission and principles of the March for Science. We join the worldwide gatherings in order to show our presence in Luxembourg in numbers too great to ignore.”

March for Science is about highlighting the role science plays in our lives and the need to encourage research. The march has also sparked conversation around whether or not scientists should involve themselves in politics.

The organisation said: “People who value science have remained silent for far too long in the face of policies that ignore scientific evidence and endanger both human life and the future of our world.

“New policies threaten to further restrict scientists’ ability to research and communicate their findings. We face a possible future where people not only ignore scientific evidence, but seek to eliminate it entirely.

“Staying silent is a luxury that we can no longer afford. We must stand together and support science.”
