Luxembourg considers complaint against German motorway tolls

Luxembourg could be filing a joint complaint against the motorway tolls in Germany.

The possible complaint could be made together with Belgium, the Netherlands and Austria.

A meeting between the transport ministers of Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria and Belgium is planned “to discuss the next steps,” Xavier Bettel’s spokesman said on Tuesday.

The Ministers want to meet in Luxembourg on June 7 – just one day before the scheduled meeting of the EU Council of Transport Ministers.

Austria has already announced its intention to bring the car toll before the European Court of Justice and Luxembourg is of the view the German toll disadvantages other EU citizens, the spokesman added.

Bettel said in January: “For us road traffic also belongs to the freedoms in Europe.”

The German Federal Council decided last Friday to introduce a car toll.
