Xavier Bettel Urges Action at Digital Summit in Tallinn

On Friday 29 September 2017, Luxembourg’s Prime Minister and Minister of State, Xavier Bettel, attended the Tallinn Digital Summit in Estonia, which brought together the Heads of State or Government of the European Union as part of the Estonian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

At this summit, Prime Minister Bettel stressed “The Union needs a true digital single market: it is an opportunity for citizens and businesses. We need ambition, courage and more European cooperation to complete the internal market in its digital dimension”. He also stressed that the European Union must develop “leading companies” in the field.

The day before the summit, the President of the European Council Donald Tusk chaired an informal dinner with EU leaders with Estonian Prime Minister Jüri Ratas. The Heads of State or Government of the European Union exchanged views on the main challenges facing the EU one year after the adoption of the Bratislava Roadmap.

During the dinner, PM Bettel stressed “Luxembourg is in favour of a Europe of action. A Europe that is united in its will to move forward and tackle the challenges it faces, in the interests of its citizens”.
